In 2004, after seven years away from school, I decided to return. I am now a Junior and plan to graduate in December, 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in General Studies, a Minor in Computer Information Technology, and a certificate in Applied Computer Science.

I am taking 18 credit hours this spring, so I'll be rather busy. However, in my free time I enjoy spending time with my family (18 neices and nephews) and learning new and exciting design techniques.

Design Experience

Although I have taken several classes in web design, they really only taught me the basics. Most of what I've learned has come through trial and error. As I tell people when I design sites for them, "Tell me what you want, and if I don't know it, I'll learn it."

Several of the sites I have designed are shown below. One thing I've learned is that one is really never finished with a site. Just as I think I've got a site looking and behaving the way I want it to, inspiration will strike and I'll add a new feature. Or worse, I'll discover a little quirk in Explorer which causes something funny and I'll have to devise a work around.

I strive to make sure that each and every page that I write is W3C complient. Unfortunately, it's not always so easy. Each browser interprets html in slightly different ways and it can be challenging to maintain your site's appearance across all browsers while also sticking to W3C standards.

Cumberland Custom Cases Shamrock Social
Cumberland Custom Cases The Avers Family in London

I started this site just over a year ago when I had very little experience in web design. It began as a very simple site that I put together for my brother-in-law who makes all of the items on the site. Over the last year, it has grown and evolved into what it is today. I'm sure it will continue to change and evolve as I learn new techniques.

This site began as a project for one of my classes at IUPUI. The assignment was to create a website for a non-profit company. I chose a project near to my heart. This is a registration site for a charity bowling tournament held in honor of my wife who passed away 5 years ago. The tournament and the associated scholorship are handled by my sister-in-law and I wanted to find a way to help out.

Isthmus of Christmas Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue
Cumberland Custom Cases Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue

This client was recently referred to me by the owner of Cumberland Custom Cases. The owner is a harmonica player and customizer by trade. However, he recently started drawing and is looking to sell some of his artwork in the form of Christmas cards.

I recently completed this site for Triple-H Miniature Horse Rescue, based in Mandan, ND. This site is proof that word-of-mouth works wonders. The owner of the rescue farm, Alison Smith. She came across my name after doing business with the owner of another site I designed Cumberland Custom Cases.

This is another site that I designed for the owner of Cumberland Custom Cases. He was looking to offer a different style case and didn't want to include it on his current site, so we decided to make a separate site altogether. This is a fairly bare-bones site...simple and straight to the point is what the client asked for.

This site's owner, Angela Avers, and her family recently moved from Chicago, IL to London, England and I built this site as a way for her to keep in touch with her family. I was recently in London and had a chance to visit with the Avers family. While I was there, I visited Stonehenge which of course made me think of "National Lampoon's European Vacation". I immediately called Mrs. Avers and suggested combining a picture of their family with one of the "Grizwolds". She nearly fell down laughing!

I designed this site for a local "Ghost-Hunting" group for them to show off their pictures and communicate among their members.
